Working in French construction (BTP)
Bricklayer, carpenter, electrician: France lacks skilled hands on its construction sites. Apply to verified companies, ready to sponsor you.

The French construction sector (BTP) faces a structural recruitment crisis: more than 100,000 jobs remain unfilled every year, with delayed sites and postponed public works. Bricklayers, formworkers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, heating engineers, crane operators, equipment operators — France needs skilled and trained workers, and several BTP roles appear on the official list of high-demand occupations enabling fast-track work permits. On OuiJob, you access verified BTP companies directly through the Recherche Entreprises API (api.gouv.fr), with a Labour Code-compliant file and full administrative support. Whether seasonal on a major site or permanent in a local SME, your profile is valued under the relevant collective agreements (FFB, CAPEB).

Three reasons to choose French construction.
— I
Recognized high-demand occupations
Most BTP roles are on the official high-demand list (Labour Code Art. R5221-21). Your work permit application is processed without local labour-market test — short, predictable lead times.
— II
Protective collective agreements
FFB (French Building Federation) and CAPEB (craftspeople) agreements set minimum wages, meal allowances, transport and long-distance bonuses. Your rights are guaranteed, your pay regulated.
— III
Long-term career
French BTP will need workers for the next 15 years (energy renovation, 2030 Olympics, Grand Paris Express). A permanent contract opens the way to the resident card and to naturalization through work.
Your steps, with the law to back them up.
BTP hires internationally through Salaried status — sometimes Passeport Talent for highly qualified profiles. Below are the texts your OuiJob advisor applies.

Do I need a French diploma to work in BTP in France?
No, but you must show an equivalent qualification. A foreign CAP/BEP in masonry, carpentry or electrical work, plus a few years' experience, is generally recognized. For electrical work, the French clearance (B1V minimum) is required and can be obtained on a fast-track course on arrival.
What is the minimum salary for a BTP worker in France?
The 2026 SMIC (€1,801.80 gross/month) is the absolute floor. Agreements IDCC 1597/1596 set higher minimums: a tier-N3 bricklayer (3 years' experience) earns at least €2,200 gross/month, a qualified carpenter €2,300, a team leader €2,800.
Is BTP really a recognized high-demand sector?
Yes. Bricklayer, formworker, carpenter, roofer, electrician, plumber are on the official high-demand list (Labour Code Art. R5221-21). DREETS can issue your work permit without checking whether the role could be filled by a French job-seeker — the procedure is faster.
Can I bring my family during a BTP contract?
With a permanent contract, family reunification is possible after 18 months of regular French residency, subject to income and housing conditions. With a Passeport Talent (rare for BTP, except for highly qualified executives), your family can join you from day one.
What are the safety conditions on French sites?
Very strict. The employer must provide all PPE (helmet, safety boots, harness, gloves), safety training, site declaration to the labour inspectorate. Any accident must be reported. Standards are identical for all employees, foreign or French (Labour Code Art. L4111-1).
How is experience from my home country valued?
Documented experience (employer letters, payslips, completed projects) counts as much as a French diploma. Prepare a detailed site-by-site CV — the OuiJob team helps you formalize it to French standards.
Are there any fees to pay to OuiJob?
No candidate fees, ever. OuiJob is paid by employers when matches are made. Anyone using our name to demand an upfront payment is a scam — please report them to us.
How long do administrative procedures take?
For a high-demand BTP role, expect 6 to 10 weeks between contract signing and arrival in France: DREETS work permit (3-6 weeks), long-stay visa at the consulate (2-4 weeks), then OFII registration on arrival.
Do I need to speak French to work on a building site?
An A2 minimum is recommended for safety reasons (instructions, signs, team communication). Many BTP companies fund French classes on arrival. The bilingual OuiJob team supports you during integration.
Can my BTP permanent contract lead to French citizenship?
Yes. Five years of regular French residency (Salaried permit) grant the right to apply for naturalization through work (Civil Code Art. 21-15), provided you master French (B1) and prove republican integration. Many BTP workers follow this path.
