Working in French logistics
HGV driver, forklift operator, order picker: the French logistics chain recruits skilled profiles internationally.

French logistics is worth €200 billion, employs 1.8 million people and ranks among the most strained sectors. Heavy goods drivers (CE licence), forklift operators (CACES), order pickers, dock agents, articulated lorry drivers, stock managers: the shortage hits every link in the chain. Several logistics roles appear on the official list of high-demand occupations, granting access to fast-track work permits. On OuiJob, your profile is matched directly with carriers, logistics platforms and major retailers verified through the Recherche Entreprises API (api.gouv.fr). For foreign HGV drivers, OuiJob also handles licence equivalence procedures (exchange or upgrade training depending on country of origin).

Three reasons to choose French logistics.
— I
Priority high-demand occupations
HGV driver, articulated-lorry driver and forklift operator are among the most strained roles on the official list (Labour Code Art. R5221-21). DREETS issues work permits within weeks.
— II
Protective TRM agreement
The Road Freight Transport collective agreement (IDCC 16) guarantees minimum wages by tier, overnight bonuses, meal allowances, quality bonuses — well above the SMIC for drivers.
— III
Job security
Logistics is structurally booming: e-commerce growth, industrial reshoring, 2030 Olympics, major events. Permanent contracts are the norm, not the exception.
Your steps, with the law to back them up.

Everything you need to know before leaving.
Is my foreign HGV licence valid in France?
Depending on bilateral agreements between France and your home country, your CE licence can be exchanged for a French licence within one year of arrival. Otherwise, you will need to take the French exam after a fast-track course. OuiJob checks the situation specific to your country in advance.
What is FIMO and is it mandatory?
FIMO (Initial Minimum Mandatory Training) is required for any professional driver in France. It lasts 140 hours and costs around €2,500. Many employers fund it on hire in exchange for a duration commitment. Renewed every 5 years (FCO).
Is CACES essential to become a forklift operator?
Yes. CACES R489 (powered industrial trucks) is mandatory to operate a forklift in France. If you do not have one, a 35-hour course (~€800) can be taken on arrival, often paid for by the employer.
What is the minimum salary for an HGV driver in France?
The 2026 monthly gross SMIC (€1,801.80) is the floor. The TRM agreement (IDCC 16) sets higher minimums: a starting 19t driver at €2,100 gross/month, an articulated-lorry driver at €2,300. With overnight bonuses (€60/night), a long-distance driver can reach €3,000 net.
Is night work paid extra?
Yes. The TRM agreement sets a 20% premium for night hours (between 9pm and 6am), 50% for Sundays and 100% for public holidays. These bonuses can significantly raise monthly pay.
Which regions hire the most in logistics?
Île-de-France (Roissy, Rungis), Hauts-de-France (Lille, Dunkirk), Lyon (Saint-Quentin-Fallavier), Marseille-Fos, Le Havre, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire. Most e-commerce hubs are concentrated in Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France.
Do I need to speak French to work in logistics?
In a warehouse (forklift, picking), A1-A2 is enough to understand safety instructions. For international drivers, English is often sufficient. For domestic drivers, A2-B1 recommended for client interaction.
How long do administrative procedures take?
For a high-demand driver or forklift operator, expect 4 to 8 weeks between contract signing and arrival. Licence equivalence happens in the year that follows. OuiJob centralizes all steps: DREETS, visa, OFII, licence exchange, FIMO.
Are there any fees to pay to OuiJob?
No candidate fees, ever. OuiJob is paid by employers when matches are made. No upfront payment will be requested — anyone using our name to demand payment is a scam.
Can my logistics permanent contract lead to French citizenship?
Yes. Five years of regular French residency grant the right to apply for naturalization through work (Civil Code Art. 21-15), provided you master French (B1) and prove integration. Many foreign drivers and forklift operators are naturalized every year.
